TAIPEI, Taiwan —

Authorities have ordered the emergency evacuation of thousands of residents as Typhoon Fung-wong, the 26th typhoon of the year

 

, approaches Taiwan's eastern coast . The Taiwan Observatory and Weather Bureau (CWA) announced on the morning of November 9 that the typhoon is moving northwest, bringing strong winds and heavy rain .

As of 10:00 a.m., Typhoon Fengwong was located


300 km southeast of Hualien ,


with maximum sustained winds of 160 km/h and gusts of 195 km/h

The typhoon is

moving northwest at about 20 km/h

and is expected to come


closest to the eastern coast of Taiwan on Sunday morning
